- Hi!
-
- I have recently been introduced to the www via Mosaic and have been
- suitably impressed. However getting Trumpet winsock to work on my 486
- 4Mb system has not been very successful.
-
- I am using a 9600 slip connection (via a university serial network -
- how do you send a break in the auto-logon on script, the network needs
- this to 'wake up') and it sort of works. I get a very slow conection
- in which ping works - occasionally. The whole system seems very
- unstable. FTP has a tendancy to stop and die mid file and worst of all
- the DNS does not work (hence no mosaic SOB SOB). I have a working name
- server address (129.67.1.1) but trumpet does not like it.
-
- Can anyone suggest settings for the setup dialog (that is if the
- documented settings are unsatisfactory for this configuration).
-
- Oh last thing I am connecting to the Morningstar PPP/Slip server
- running on a DEC UN*X machine.
-
- Any help would be much apprectiated and sorry if I missed the FAQ.
-
- Cheers Emm

- Subject: Location of Trumpet Winsock .ini files?
-
-
- Hello!
-
- I am curious about the necessary locations of the
- two .ini files that Trumpet Winsock needs, these
- files are: trmpwsk.ini and winsock.ini.
-
- My questions are:
-
- Does trmpwsk.ini have to be located in the directory
- where tcpman.exe and the other files are, i.e. c:\trumpet ?
-
- Does winsock.ini have to be located in c:\windows ?
-
- The reason I ask is it would be nice if we could put the
- trumpet files up on a Novell shared server and have a
- standard load menu system for windows users across campus.
- The menu would include pointers to the winsock programs
- all located on say, an e: drive. We would like to avoid
- the redundancy of copying the trumpet files and polluting
- the c:\windows directory.
-
- We have all of the users IP information etc necessary to
- run trumpet winsock set up in environment variables at
- boot time. Trumpet winsock seems to read these just fine,
- but it always creates that trmpwsk.ini file in the based
- on the information in whatever directory you run tcpman
- from.
-
- If this is not possible, might it be in the near future?
- It seems like it would be nice if you could set tcpman
- to read an ini file OR environment variables only.
-
- The ability to do this is what will determine whether or
- not we register it for this campus.
-
- I would appreciate any ideas/comments or questions for
- clarification.
-
- Thanks!
-
- Peace,
- -Rich

- Does this mean that I can't use wintalk with the Novell LWP winsock?

- If you mean Trumpet Winsock, yes. Peter has told me on several occasions that
- his Winsock will eventually support PPP. It may be many months away
- though...off in the distance like Chicago.

- Subject: Does Trumpet winsock.dll support gethostname()?
-
- Hello,
-
- I would like to know if Trumpet winsock.dll supports the gethostname()
- function. It seems like all applications which calls this function can not be
- run with Trumpet winsock.dll. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.
